Beethoven (1770-1827)
Description:
Winner of the Munich International Music Competition, Armida String Quartet! Named after the opera by Haydn, the “father of the string quartet,” the Armida Quartet was founded in Berlin in 2006, won the 61st Munich International Music Competition in 2012 (six awards including the Audience Award), and was selected as the BBC’s “New Generation Artist” from 2014-2016. He was selected as a BBC “New Generation Artist” in 2014-2016, and has had great success in Europe with concerts at the Concertgebouw, Berlin’s Philharmonie, and Wigmore Hall, among others. This work combines Beethoven’s surprisingly challenging and unconventional String Quartet No. 7 and, conversely, Shostakovich’s surprisingly lighthearted String Quartet No. 10, two works that in some ways can be considered contrasting.
