WEITBLICK label – the first in the Klaus Tennstedt series! Although he is a master from the former East Germany, his activities in his native land are little known. Since his youth, he had many recording troubles, and only a few recordings of his very early operatic arias and East German contemporary music are extant in the former East German broadcast recordings. The Beethoven performance with the Staatskapelle Mecklenburg is a miracle, not only because it is a fine performance, but also because it does not lose sight of each and every note and has sufficient exuberance. Even at this age, he already had the makings of a maestro. The “Fate” and “Egmont” were performed after he had already fled East Germany and made a name for himself in the U.S. and U.K. The Kiel Philharmonic Orchestra, of which he had been general music director since 1972, gave a superb performance of the “Fate” and “Egmont”. The tension and intensity coexist. WEITBLICK plans to maintain a good relationship with Tennstedt’s widow and release high-quality performances in the future. [Text courtesy of Tobu Trading].
