Dark Ages (Italy)
Description:
Italian veteran prog metal band formed in ’82 with Simone Calciolari (g) at the center and Carlo Busato (dr) and Angela Busato (key) joining the band in ’96. Their second album on the Andomeda Relix label, “Between Us” was released in 2010. The lineup is unchanged from the previous album, and the sound is a continuation of the previous album. Although the guitars are in the HM/HR style approach, Roberto Roverselli’s majestic clean vocals and the keyboards, which use a variety of instruments such as flute, strings, and acoustic piano, basically dominate the scene, and the band as a whole is strongly in the symphonic direction. The band as a whole has a strong symphonic orientation. The album is full of songs that appeal to progressive rock fans as well, such as “Beyond,” which shows an acoustic lyricism, and “Our Lonely Shelter,” which has a great melody that builds and cries towards the end of the song. The last track, ‘There Is No End,’ is an excellent song with a clear transition from one scene to the next, with a clear yin-yang effect, including acoustic guitar, flute, and organ. The sweet and catchy melody of Italian pop/symphonic rock, the aggressiveness of Italian rock and metal of the past, and the progressive rock construction are all mixed together without any unpleasant taste, and it is a great work that shows the depth of the band’s nostalgia.
